On the 13th February 1862,the savage murder of Miss Eliza Morrow took place on Agard Street in Derby by her former lover Richard Thorley.
Following the breakdown of their turbulent relationship, Thorley decided to confront Miss Morrow regarding her courtship with a soldier that she had recently started seeing. Fuelled by jealousy, an argument erupted between the two leading to Thorley lunging at Eliza and slashing her neck with a cut-throat razor. Realising the magnitude of what he’d done, he quickly fled leaving Eliza to her fate.
Witnesses on Agard Street called local surgeon Doctor Joseph German to the scene but her lacerations were far too severe and sadly Eliza bled to her death in the arms of the surgeon.
Many claim to have witnessed Eliza wandering Agard street over the years and it’s reported that former Agard Street factory workers experienced sightings on such regular occurrences that they fondly nicknamed her ‘Lizzie’.
It’s said that should you take a walk down the street you can still hear her final breaths and cries of help to this day 🖤
And what happened to Richard Thorley?
Sentenced to death for his actions, he is all set and ready to be our next ‘Ghost of Derby’ release.
